This transition from the use of a medical product to the use of a product from the field of personal protective equipment can be illustrated well with the protective masks: there is the standard in medicine the 3-layer blue mask that everyone knows. In the latter case, the normal citizen uses them at all not medically, but as the simplest protection in his everyday life, which should not be medical.

FFP2 is a term that can only be used in the field of personal protective equipment. It's just not a medical term and we can't bend it down to that either. Likewise FFP1 or FFP3. FFP2 has a significantly higher protective effect than a sterile, medical surgical mask - both for the wearer of the mask and for people in their immediate vicinity. How the FFP2 respirators work

How to breathe with an FFP2 respirator

The amount of air that you breathe in has to be increased a little consciously and the breathing movement is thus carried out a little more consciously and intensely than it normally happens automatically. It goes without saying that a higher expenditure of force is required necessary to breathe through various layers of fabric with filter properties than to breathe freely without them. But that is easier said than done permanently. To a certain extent, the innate automatism to breathe provides insufficient performance a mask. After all, masks are not innate. Valved masks make it easier to breathe out and hold back less stale air. Breathing is allowed to be more intuitive. Breathing is easier, according to the subjective feeling. Our organism is by no means adapted to wearing a mask.

If we have to wear masks, we have no choice but to consciously deal with our breath until we have developed a mask breath as a so-called second breath. You have to do the same as a diver learn by breathing in through the mouth and with the oxygen from an oxygen cylinder. Or when jogging: Here you can't be too lazy to breathe a little more. Otherwise you will run out of breath and get side stitches. Similar here, but then with the symptom of drowsiness.

This training on conscious breathing while cycling with a mask can be observed well in yourself. Cycling itself needs a little more oxygen when you breathe in. With a mask you notice a certain shortness of breath more quickly and you have to consciously take countermeasures. Once you have accepted it, this procedure can then be transferred somewhat more easily to wearing the high-quality respiratory protection masks. In general, it is important to keep in mind: always breathe in a little more and breathe out forcefully, rather a little bit forcefully. What we would like to warn against: Don't neglect protection just for convenience. Protect FFP2 filter masks far more effective in their performance class than a scarf or a cotton mask. It is certainly easier to breathe through a scarf or a cotton mask. It is also easier to breathe through the 3-layer surgical mask. A lot of air comes to the side and goes sideways. It's more convenient and we can't see the aerosols either. The protection of the scarf and cotton mask is many times less.

FFP2 masks at Covid 19 and what kind of protective masks is best

With Covid 19 you have to it is about the best possible protection for yourself and your surroundings. For this it should be accepted to consciously train our breathing again. With yoga, singing, sports and meditation this is no different. As many know, these exercises are also worthwhile. FFP2 masks with a valve make it easier to breathe out. The air also escapes through the valve, not just through the filter layers. The aerosols in the Exhaling that does not accumulate in the mask also leads to less wetting of the mask. The moisture in your own breath goes out unfiltered through the valve. Hence, the retention of moisture in an FFP2 Mask with valve is not given so intensively. We have to understand, however: When we are indoors, the point is to keep the moisture from exhaled air as low as possible for everyone. If we, as the wearer of a mask with a valve, without our knowing it, are thus Covid19 virus carriers, we will continue to expose our immediate surroundings to this danger. So there is no point in visiting your own grandma and to wear a chic mask with a valve if you want to protect grandma from us, her visit. The grandma would continue to be a part, namely that which escapes through the valve, unprotected our breath and exposed to its aerosols. Only the mask wearer in front of a grandma infected with Covid19 would be appreciated. So, being careful means: either wear both masks with valves or, better yet, good masks without valves.
